6 Maintenance Tips to Save Money in Pakistan
Never skip oil changes
In Pakistan's extreme heat and stop-and-go traffic, oil degrades faster than in cooler climates. Stick to 5,000 km intervals regardless of what the manual says for "ideal" conditions.
Service your AC every 2 years
Pakistan heat means AC compressors work overtime. Gas recharge (Rs. 3,000–8,000) and filter cleaning every 2 years prevents expensive compressor failure.
Check tyre pressure monthly
Correct tyre pressure improves fuel economy by 3–5% and prevents premature wear. In Karachi and Lahore summer heat, check in the morning before driving.
Change coolant every 3 years
Old coolant becomes acidic and corrodes the radiator from inside. Flush and replace every 3 years — costs Rs. 2,000–5,000 but saves Rs. 30,000+ radiator replacement.
Use the right fuel grade
91 RON (standard petrol) is fine for most naturally aspirated engines. Turbo engines (Civic, Sportage 1.6T) benefit from 95 RON premium — better performance and economy.
Brake pads every 30–40k km
Pakistani roads and heavy traffic wear brake pads faster. Check at every service. Front pads: Rs. 4,000–12,000. Never ignore squealing — it means metal-on-metal.
Post-2015 cars with VVT, VTEC, or turbo engines require 0W-20 or 5W-30 full synthetic. Using 20W-50 mineral oil (traditionally popular in Pakistan) in these engines causes sludge buildup, VVT actuator failure, and turbo damage within 50,000 km.
