How to Claim Car Insurance in Pakistan

01
Stop and assess
If in an accident, stop safely. Turn on hazard lights. Do not move the car if seriously damaged — wait for police.
02
Call police (if needed)
For accidents involving injury or significant damage, call 15 (Police) and get an FIR or Police Report. This is usually required for large claims.
03
Photograph everything
Take photos/videos of all damage, position of cars, road conditions, and any other vehicles involved before moving anything.
04
Notify your insurer immediately
Call your insurance company's claims line within 24 hours. Most have 24/7 helplines. Do not repair before surveyor inspection.
05
Surveyor inspection
The insurer sends a surveyor (usually within 24–48 hours) to assess damage. Cooperate fully and don't start repairs yet.
06
Get repair estimate approved
Take car to insurer's approved workshop or get your preferred workshop's estimate approved by the surveyor.
07
Complete repairs
Repairs proceed. For cashless claims at approved workshops, you only pay the deductible (excess). For reimbursement, keep all receipts.
08
Claim settlement
Insurer pays the approved workshop directly (cashless) or reimburses you (non-cashless). Timeline: 3–14 working days for most straightforward claims.

Insurance FAQs

What is the difference between comprehensive and third-party car insurance?

Comprehensive covers damage to your own car (accident, theft, flood, fire) plus third-party liability (damage to others). Third-party only covers damage you cause to others — your car damage is NOT covered. For any car worth over Rs. 10 Lakh, comprehensive is strongly recommended.

How much does comprehensive car insurance cost in Pakistan?

Typically 3–5% of the car's market value annually. A Rs. 50 Lakh car would cost Rs. 1.5–2.5 Lakh per year. Discounts for trackers (10–20%), named drivers, and no-claim bonuses reduce premiums.

Does my insurance cover floods and natural disasters?

Most comprehensive policies in Pakistan include coverage for flood, storm, and natural disasters under Act of God clauses. Always read your policy schedule carefully — some cheaper policies exclude these. Verify this specifically when buying.

What is a tracker discount and how do I get it?

Installing a GPRS vehicle tracker entitles you to 10–20% premium discount from most insurers. Popular tracker brands in Pakistan: Cartrack, TrackOn, SWVL trackers. The insurer must approve the tracker brand.

Can I insure a used car in Pakistan?

Yes. Used cars can be insured at their current market value (Insured Declared Value / IDV). Provide the registration book and current market value. Premiums are based on IDV, not purchase price.

What documents do I need to make a claim?

Generally: CNIC copy, insurance policy copy, original registration book (Form-B), claim form, photos of damage, police report (if required), and repair estimate from workshop.
